ESP LTD Deluxe EC-1000 Review - Top Notch Korean Guitar!

By R. S. Rasnick

If the phrase "Made in Korea" turns you off regarding a potential instrument purchase, it's time for you to think again. Sure, Korean-made guitars were once low quality, but those days are long gone. Many Korean-made musical instruments rival their Japanese and American made counterparts.

South Korean manufacturing has come a long way and is churning out some terrific guitars. The ESP LTD Deluxe EC-1000 is a superb instance of top-flight Korean instrument manufacturing. Let's look at what makes this guitar such a bargain.

A guitar is only as nice as its parts, and the ESP LTD Deluxe EC-1000 contains the best hardware in the business. The ESP is equipped with EMG 81 pickups, TonePros System II locking bridge, Sperzel locking tuners, and an Earvana compensated nut.

Clearly, ESP didn't skimp on the details. This instrument contains world-class elements, but how does it play and sound?

We're in luck. The LTD Deluxe EC-1000 is a winner in the tone and action department as well. Put plainly, the action rivals instruments costing twice the price. It's low and buzz-free. The fretboard (24 frets) is absolutely faultless.

We were especially taken with the capabilities of the LTD Deluxe EC-1000 as a great metal or shred instrument. We ripped sweep picking licks and cranked out power chords alike with no troubles. We really liked the EMG-81 pickups, which offer a lot of versatility, though the guitar does excel at high gain riffage.

The tuning is spot on as well, thanks to the included Earvana nut. Chords were in tune from the first to the high frets, and the intonation was flawless.

This instrument is no slouch in the looks section either. The mahogany body and flamed maple top make this guitar quite a looker. The rosewood fretboard is decorated with top-flight abalone inlays.

The guitar's construction quality is flawless, and believe you me we tried to find troubles with it. Well done ESP! This guitar could really make a lot of players very happy, given its consistent excellence.

With a list price of less than $1000, the LTD Deluxe EC-1000 is a pro-quality instrument at a very affordable price. The Korea vs. USA debate may finally be a thing of the past. - 18762
