The Recruit: One of the smartest college students in the country, James Clayton gets a unique offer to work special operations for the CIA. When he decides he has had enough, he gets a real assignment, but just what is really going on?

Bright Lights, Big City: A young writer moves to New York to work for a major magazine. His life is a mess, his mother died recently, now his wife has left him. He now finds himself escaping into the seedy nightlife in New York City than never ends. Can he escape the downward spiral he is on?

Cliffhanger: In a complex heist, a group of thieves hijack a $100 million delivery flight. Attempting to switch planes to escape, they crash in the mountains. They radio for help, and when it comes they force the rescuers to help them recover the lost cash.

Gator: Not-so-hot continuation to White Lightning, in reference to a due process Dept. representative Weston and moon-shiner ex-con Reynolds out to get the wares on corrupt Southern congressmen. Some excellent action, however overlong and badly created. Cast includes Burt Reynolds, Jack Weston, Lauren Hutton, Jerry Reed, Alice Ghostley, Mike Douglas, and Dub Taylor. (116 minutes, 1976)

The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter: Heart-rending tirade of a deaf mute's desolate planet, and how he helps a teen gal battling to find herself. Authentic adaptation of Carson McCullers' novel, set in the Large South, aids from moving behaviors-containing Arkin, Locke whose debut film this was, and joke performer McCann, in a revelatory change-of-pace part as Arkin's siI11ple-minded mute buddy. Cast includes Alan Arkin, Sondra Locke, Laurinda Barrett, Stacy Keach, Jr., Ditch McCann, Biff McGuire, Percy Rodriguez, Cicely Tyson, and Jackie Marlowe. (125 minutes, 1968)

Slattery's Hurricane: Weather reporter Widmark, in midst of storm, looks back on his life. Damell and Pool are the two women he has loved. Cast includes Richard Widmark, Linda Damell, Veronica Pool, John Russell, and Gary Merrill. (83 minutes, 1949)

The Red Violin: Multi-episode film follows the destiny of a hexed violin from 17th-century Italy to 18th century Vienna, 19th century England, 20th-century China and present day Montreal. The tales are mainly downbeat and or aggravating, and the finish up part with appraiser Jackson is difficult to swallow. Colorful locales and enthralling premises sustain limited interest all the way through. Cast includes Carlo Cecchi, Irene Grazioli, Jean-Luc Bideau, Jason Flemyng, Greta Scacchi, Sylvia Chang, Samuel L. Jackson, Colm Feore, Monique Mercure, Don McKellar, and Sandra Oh. Night Nurse: Phenomenal, hard story of nurse (Stanwyck) who couldn't disregard bizarre goings on in home where she works. Blondell adds zingy aid and it is one of Gable's most impressive early appearances. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Ben Lyon, Joan Blondell, Clark Gable, Charlotte Merriam, and Charles Winninger.

Rambling Rose: Evocative story set in 1930s Georgia, with Dem as an oversexed senseless gal who comes to work for a ladylike family headed by Duvall and Ladd. Vibrant, pleasantly detailed, and well performed, with numerous delightful astonishments during the voyage. Cast includes Laura Dem, Rohert Duvall, Diane Ladd, Lukas Haas, John Heard, Kevin Conway, Rohert J. Burke, Lisa Jakub, and Evan Lockwood. (112 minutes, 1991)

Alias Nick Beal: Allegory of Devil (Milland) corrupting truthful congressmen Mitchell with the help of trollop Stumble. This is a fascinating drama with an unusually wicked Milland. (93 minutes, 1949) Cast includes Ray Milland, Audrey Stumble, Thomas Mitchell, George Macready, and Fred Clark.

Scandalous: Featherbrained sham in regards to investigative Television journalist who runs afoul of a team of con artists as he tries to extricate himself from a homicide charge. Cast includes Robert Hays, John Giegud, Pamela Stephenson, and Jim Dale. (94 minutes, 1984)
