A Love For My Family And Music

By Aimee Jones

Nowadays, if you would notice, our surroundings are full of noise. Noise coming from vehicles, people talking or shouting, the sound of a loud television, dogs barking and even fireworks on some occasions. And even if you're sleeping, you can hear car engines still traveling at night or maybe your air conditioner inside your room, they make noises too. Sounds could be irritating or pleasing to our ears, and when we think of music, most of the time it's nice to listen with it.

When I was a kid, my mom would usually tell me stories on how she met my father. My mom performs as a singer, while my dad performs as the drummer in the band.

While growing up, my sister and I would, most of the time listen to the songs that our mom has recorded. My father would then teach us how to sing them properly and even record our own versions as well.

Now, looking back at those times when we were still young made me realize that singing or the music itself is not just for some people create or perform, there has to be feelings in it as well. I remember what my mom told me that whenever she sings this particular song she thinks of me, another song would be for my sister and another for my father. This only means that she thinks of us, her loved ones, and that is the reason why she performs well because it's like dedicating the song to us even if we are not there.

There are times when we as a family would just sit and sing most hours of the day, my father once said that one of his greatest possessions is the ability to make music which he would like us to continue as well. Dad knows how to play guitars, drums and piano, he can sing very well too.

To have music in the family is a great way to spend and enjoy your everyday. You could be the singer or the drummer, the guitarist or the pianist, whatever your interest maybe, it will sure be fun for everyone.

With music around, you can be your self. You may not be the type who wants to create music but for sure, you can always listen. With so many kinds to choose from, you'll definitely find one that can make you think of happy thoughts or memories even make yourself free from stress since music can make your mind relax, especially the classic ones.

I am a music lover. I love my music as I love my family. I can think of them whenever I'm at peace. And music definitely puts my mind at ease. - 18762

New Found Glory's Don't You (Forget About Me) Cover Is A Breath of Hip and Youthful Air

By Timothy Q. Mason

New Found Glory's cover album From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II included a version of the 1980's hit song Don't You (Forget About Me). The song, which was made theme of the movie The Breakfast Club, was originally recorded by the new wave band Simple Minds.

The song was originally meant for Billy Idol and Bryan Ferry. But after rejecting it, the writers, Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff, pitched it to Simple Minds who also refused to record it. Their label then persuaded the band to do it so they ended up recording the song, which turned out to be a major hit.

Fortunately, the song became a huge hit. It became the band's only number one hit in the United States and reached the Top Ten of the UK charts. It was even propelled to fame with the release of the movie The Breakfast Club. This was Simple Mind's most famous song to date.

The thought of remaking a slow, serene, and haunting song from the 1980s by a pop-punk band that has more shouting than singing in their songs is a very interesting idea. For sure, the result would be unexpected.

New Found Glory's take on the song is very much different than the original, or from any other versions. It is more hip, youthful, and loud. I guess you should expect it to be loud since a pop-punk band is singing it. The vocals are not impressive since most of the song felt like shouted. The words were thrown fast but you can still hear and understand the lyrics clearly.

It was a good thing that the band did not change the son's original melody. Had they done that, I guess there would be a different result. People may not relate to it well and may even not recognize the song. It was right that they kept the original score and just upped the tempo and made it louder. It works better that way for the band.

Frankly speaking, there is no evident purpose in re-recording the song. Aside from being hip and more current, nothing new is given. There was not much to anticipate for instead of loud singing. There was even a growl at the bridge, which, surprisingly, is very good. It did not make the song sound weird nor it seemed awkward. Hats off to the band for pulling it off.

The song is okay. I don't dislike it but I'm not jumping in my seat either. It was good to listen to but there is nothing to get from it but a nice listening experience. - 18762

DJ turntable Vs. CD players

By Nik Levesque

DJ turntable vs. CD players: which is which, you might ask. Well, that depends on two things. One: what do you intend to use the music player for. And two: how much money are you really willing to spend on the player. By the way, these are two very different players. For starters, a DJ turntable is basically a phonograph or gramophone, which uses vinyl records as its primary medium. Speaking of which, vinyl records as a form of recording style has been supplanted by digital music in 1991. Although there are still some artists and recording companies who use this medium to store music, most of the vinyl recordings carry music only from the late 1920s to 1990.

On the other hand, optical discs are the primary medium for CD players. CD discs have a wider range of music selections, primarily because new music is being constantly added to the play list and music companies are re-recording "classics" on digital formats now. At the same time, amateur musicians can record their own music and have these burned on CD formats easily.

There is also no such thing as a compact DJ turntable. This equipment can be rather bulky, and not really the type you can play on you lap while you take the bus home. Most CD players are very portable. However, these are limited only to the conventional CD music format, and will not play any other forms of recordings (e.g. MP3s.)

Saying this, let us now tackle about your actual intention for acquiring said players. Naturally, playing music is the number one reason here. It should be noted that both players do not have the capacity to burn or scratch music either on CD formats or vinyl formats. However, these can work well enough with playing their respective mediums. DJs also use the turntable to scratch, mix, or spin music - which is something that conventional CD players cannot do. Scratching is the distinct repetitive sound made when the DJ's hand moves the vinyl record back and forth in little motions. Mixing and spinning music can only be done using two turntables and a music mixer with crossfader functions. The main goal of using turntables is to play, mix and scratch music for the benefit of others. Very rarely will you see a DJ mixing music for his or her ears only.

Conventional CD players do not have this same capacity. These can only ever play pre-recorded music, and only at the sequence specified. Because the songs are digitally recorded as a whole, CD players cannot start the music other than its introductory area, and you certainly cannot mix part of the song with another song in the same disc without skipping to the next tune.

As for costs, turntables are more expensive by far. Complete turntable units can cost as much as $7,000; this still does not include the rates of the vinyl records you have to buy. Some of the higher end CD players can cost about $200, while the portable ones cost less than $40. - 18762

Michael Jackson Career Overview: Six Solo Albums

By Marvin Markus

During his solo career as an adult (which began in 1979) Michael Jackson released a total of six studio albums up through his untimely death in 2009. In this article you'll find a short review of each of those six albums.

Off the Wall - This album made Michael Jackson a real solo star. He was no longer the "little kid in the Jackson Five." Admittedly he was always the star of the Jackson Five but he was still mostly known for his work with them and not for his solo stuff until Off the Wall which included two #1 hits "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" & "Rock with You."

Thriller - This album made Michael Jackson the biggest pop star in the world. It's still the biggest selling album in the history of the world (and the biggest selling album in the United States as well.) It included two more #1 hits ("Billy Jean" & "Beat It") and an amazing seven top 10 singles. Since the album only had nine total songs that means all but two of it's songs were top 10 hits.

Bad - In some ways Bad was actually Jackson's most commercial successful album even though it's often overlooked in comparison with the monster success of Thriller. In what ways am I talking about? Well specifically it produced an amazing five #1 singles in the US including legendary hits like "Man in the Mirror" and the title track "Bad." The album should also be noted for the amount of songs that Jackson wrote: 8 of the 10 songs were penned by Jackson himself.

Dangerous - Dangerous was actually his biggest selling album as far as first week sales. It's also second (only behind Thriller) as far as total worldwide album sales with over 32 million copies sold in the world. That being said, it only had one #1 hit ("Black or White") which after an album with five #1 hits (Bad) that was something of a disappointment.

HIStory - This album includes both a greatest hits collection (15 hits up through his previous album, Dangerous) and a disc of new 15 new songs including "You Are Not Alone," "Earth Song," "Stranger in Moscow," and a cover of The Beatles classic "Come Together." Although somewhat of a weak seller in comparison to Jackson's biggest hit albums, it still put up impressive sales numbers all over the world.

Invincible - This album is often considered a huge failure by Jackson's critics but that only goes to show just how the standards are for him because by many standards the album was a big hit. It went to #1 in many countries around the world including the US and the UK and it has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. It included two top twenty US singles: "You Rock My World" (reached #10 in the US & #2 in the UK) and "Butterflies" (#14 in the US.) - 18762
