HDTV - How To Buy One

By Richard Nalle

HDTV, or high definition television, is going to take over the United States in July 2009. This new HDTV technology will be a quantum leap in television broadcast. The new technology allows for a sharper, clearer and more colorful picture than what the old analog broadcast allows. You will want to be prepared by purchasing the right HDTV equipment so that your home television setup will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.

You will see a lot of digital televisions available for sale. Do not rush out and buy just any digital television. You will want to make sure the television is a true HDTV set that is HDTV ready. Additionally you will want to purchase an HDTV television that is widescreen in order to take advantage of the HDTV broadcasts which will all be in widescreen format. This will mean that the viewing area of your HDTV television will be much smaller than an analog television. Widescreen broadcasts are done in 16:9 aspect ratio. Analog broadcasts are done in 4:3 aspect ratio. Since the viewing area is smaller, you will need to purchase an HDTV that is a bit larger than a standard, analog television to maintain the same viewing area.

You will notice the different resolutions offered. The best resolution, hands down is 1080p. The others that are offered are 720 and 1080i. The numbers represent how many lines are used to make the picture on the screen and the letters at the end represent how those lines are displayed.

Now that you have an HDTV ready telvision you will wan to ensure that you are receiving an HD signal. The best way to guarantee this is to get cable or satellite television that offers an HD service. With the HD service and a true HDTV, widescreen telvision, you will be set when the middle of the summer comes around and HDTV kicks off in the U.S. Another thing you wil lwantt o get from thee cable or satellite company is an HD DVR. This is a device that records your favorite shows in the HD format so you will get the full HD experience when you play it back.

The HDTV broadcast is also accompanied with better sound. This means that to take advantage of the improved sound quality of the broadcast, you will want to hook your HDTV up to your stereo equipment or your home theater system.

One of the other factors you will need to consider is using quality HDTV cables. Many of the HDTV manufacturers include decent quality cables to hook up all the different TV and stereo components. However, these cables could be the weak link in your HDTV setup. Getting high quality HDTV cables will ensure that you have no weak links in the HD feed to your screen.

If you get the best components for you, you will no doubt be able to set up your own movie room in your own house. Doing the proper research and making sure your set up has no weak links will ensure you many years of high definition, move watching pleasure - 18762

Learn How To Play The Violin

By Ned Dagostino

If you've always wanted to learn how to play the violin, you can. Of course, most people think that it's best to start when you are quite young, but really, you can learn how to play the violin at any age.

You can start by taking private lessons from a professional teacher, but really that's not entirely necessary at the start. If you have a friend or relative that can play, they can certainly get your started with the basics. That means learning how to hold the instrument correctly. This is important for several reasons. If you hold it wrong you'll be uncomfortable, which will take the fun out of playing. But if your form is wrong you can also have a stress injury so make sure you get it right from the start. Place your left arm under the instrument's body and hold on to the neck of the violin with your left hand. As you hold it your fingers should curve over the next so that your hands and fingers are set over the strings. The chin rest should be between your chin and left shoulder. Put the bow in your right hand and you are ready to play.

One thing you'll notice about the violin is that unlike a guitar, there are no frets on the neck. You'll essentially be learning the notes by ear until you get to the point where you know exactly where every note is on the fingerboard.

You'll first be taught the four main positions on the violin. Those first position is at the end of the neck and will give you the low notes. The last of the four positions is close to your face and will give you higher notes. The four strings are tuned to G, D. A, and E. Play the strings "open" (with no fingers pressing on the strings) and these are the notes you will hear. Press you fingers on the strings at different locations and you will hear different notes.

Notes are play in one of two ways. The are played pizzicato, (by plucking them) or by running the bow across the strings slowly and steadily. Most people learn by plucking and advance from there.

You're also going to need to learn how to read music. You have several options for this. The easiest would be to get a friend or relative that already knows to teach you. You can also hire a professional, take a class, or just search the Internet for one of many instructional sites.

You should know before you start that it will take years of hard work, dedication and practice before you become an expert and that's OK. You don't have to be an expert to have fun playing this wonderful instrument. Just get started and you'll see what I mean. - 18762
