A Few Quality Film Story Lines To Go Over

By Bruce Swanson

It wasn't that long ago that a trip to the corner video shop was the most convenient way to get a movie. Instead of buying or renting the dvd, people now can choose a movie download instead. You will find just about any movie you want with a good movie download site. Below is a small sample.

The Devil's Advocate: Kevin Lomax has never lost a case. He then gets an offer to move to New York, and work for John Milton, at his prestigious firm. Once there, things start to very strange. As time goes on he comes to realize that John Milton is none other than the Devil himself.

It Takes All Kinds: Fair triple-cross drama in reference to Miles' guarding of Lansing after the man inadvertently kills a sailor in a fight in Australia. Cast includes Vera Miles, Barry Sullivan, Sid Melton, and Dime Sugg. (98 minutes, 1969)

Chicken Run: The chickens want to fly the coup in this animated, family comedy. Mrs. Tweedy, the greedy farm owner has other plans, and not only thwarts their escape, but threatens to make chicken pie out of them if egg production doesn't stay up to standards. All hope seems lost until Rocky shows up and helps the chickens make a more elaborate and daring escape attempt.

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: Try to link melodies from The Beatles' classic album into some kind of tale line just doesn't work; patterns range from reasonable to humiliating. As to The Bee Gees performing ability, well let's just say that they are not the Beatles. Cast includes Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, George Bums, Sandy Farina, and Steve Martin. (111 minutes, 1978)

See you in the Morning: Bridges and Krige follow a difficult journey to a second matrimony for both of them, trying to delete poor memories and lingering complications and having to triumph over each other's youngsters. Overall knowledge, warmth, and gentility are expressed in this relationship film. Cast includes Jeff Bridges, Alice Krige, Farrah Fawcett, Linda Lavin, Drew Barrymore, and Robin Bartlett. (119 minutes, 1989)

Dennis The Menace: This is a movie version of the 1950's comic strip. With his parents out of town Dennis is staying with the neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. As usual Dennis is making life miserable for poor Mr. Wilson.

Clue: Stupid joke whodunit based on the trendy board game of the same name with all the recognizable characters Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, Miss Red, et al. assembled for a murderous day in a Victorian mansion. Everyone tries extremely hard bet there is nothing they can do to save this weak film. Cast includes Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Ponder, and Howard Hesseman. (87 minutes, 1985)

Striptease: Erin Grant is a stripper at the Eager Beaver. She is trying to raise enough money to get her daughter back from her divorced jerk of a former husband. Things spin out of control for Erin when a corrupt congressman comes to the club and takes a liking to her.

Rocky 5: Rocky Balboa is back at it in the 5th installation of this never ending series of fight films following the rags to riches hero's entire career. Vintage Fender Telecaster- Leo Fender's Revolutionary Idea

By Christopher Beachum

Guitar collections seem incomplete until they have a vintage Fender Telecaster. Reason being is because it was the first popular solid body guitar produced. There were a lot of attempts before it, but none of them caught the success of the Telecaster. It would set the stage for a new era of guitars.

It took Leo Fender around 17 years of experimentation to produce the better known as "Tele". The first prototype name of the Telecaster was the Esquire. The Esquire entered the scene in 1950 and had a short life span. Only around 50 guitars were manufactured and distributed then recalled due to manufacturing errors. This however did not discourage Leo.

After patching up his botched guitar and adding some new features he was ready for a re-release later that year. He would name his new release as the Fender Broadcaster. Leo's luck remained poor and almost as soon as he started selling his guitars he was hit with copy righting argument with the Gretsch Company. They had a line of drums called the "Broadkasters" that they claimed an obvious violation of their copy right. The Broadcaster needed a new name.

Leo once again would not be shaken by this set back and he renamed his guitar after the newly popular meduim, the television. Hence the Fender Telecaster. The Telecaster repaid him for all of his years of trial and error. It hit the market and caused a frenzy in the guitar world. The once dismissed solid body electric guitar now was the new thing. Leo had changed music history forever.

The Fender Telecaster for its time had remarkable craftsmanship and was an ease to fix when broken. The components were not constructed individually like most of the guitars of the time, but were mass manufactured. Most would thing that this would decrease the performance of the guitar, but this wasn't the case. The Telecaster was sawed and routed from slabs, not hand-carved, the necks were bolted on not glued, and the fretboards were imbedded not separate from the neck. Theses are just a few examples of many at the simplicity of production and repair... - 18762

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, & George Harrison's Greatest Post Beatles Solo Albums

By Jackson Q. Weller

The post Beatles solo work of Lennon, McCartney, & Harrison is often dismissed out of hand. The "conventional wisdom" that all of their post Beatles albums were garbage is often taken as truth by people who really haven't even given their solo work a proper listen. The truth is that they did record a number of excellent albums during their solo careers.

In this article I highlight five such albums that I recommend you give an honest listen to. Are any of these albums a match for Revolver, The White Album, or Abbey Road? No, not in my opinion. But not many albums are in that league! While these albums may not be true classics, they are (in some cases) very close to that status.

Paul McCartney - Ram (1971) - This album has a real "magic" to it. I think it may actually be Paul's best solo album because it unleashes his musical creativity in it's most unbridled way. Sadly, a lot of the music critics at the time just didn't get what Paul was doing and I think he backed away from this really quite "weird" (and I mean that in the best way) direction because of that.

John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band (1970) - John, Paul, & George all started off really strongly with their debut solo albums in my opinion. But it was probably this album by John that has had the most lasting impact. it's really revelatory in it's stripped down stark style. It's a very influential album.

George Harrison - All Things Must Pass (1970) - This one was a huge revelation as showed what a prolific songwriter George was He had a lot of songs built up from his time with The Beatles that he wasn't able to get onto Beatles albums thus this triple album came into being (the 3rd LP being instrumental jams.) Unfortunately he never came close to matching this album the rest of his career, in my opinion.

Paul McCartney - Memory Almost Full (2007) - A lot of people were disappointed by this one in comparison with Chaos & Creation... and I can understand that, but it's really a completely different side of Paul. Chaos... was the disciplined Paul. This is the "do anything he damn well pleases" Paul. I find both Paul's charming and I think this is a pretty great album.

The Fireman - Rushes (1998) - This is Paul working with Youth under the name "The Fireman." It's an experimental electronic ambient album that you are either going to think is really interesting (like I do) or a complete snooze fest (this sort of cerebral music is definitely not for everyone.) But what it does show beyond a shadow of a doubt is that Paul McCartney is not the simple pop balladeer that so many uninformed people try to make him out to be.

This list is not meant to be the top five and it's definitely not meant to be all inclusive. These are just five albums to check out so that you can get a taste of the great music John, Paul, & George kept making after they left The Beatles. - 18762
