Life on a Strand - Musical, wonderfully filmed tale of a blind boy who is informed by his teacher that his eyesight can be repaired if he commits his life to music; he gets to be a saintly old gentleman still without ability to see who travels from village to village with his young scholar harmonizing melodies, which he finds emotionally nurturing. Considerate film full with poetic energy, and a soundtrack of outstanding melodies. Cast includes Liu Zhong Yuan, Huang Lei, Xu Qing, Ma Ling, and Zhang Zhengguan. (110 minutes, 1991)

Richard's Things - Widow Ullmann is seduced by her late spouse's lady friend. Screenplay by Frederic Raphael based on his novel. Cast includes Liv Ullmann, Amanda Redman, Tim Smith, Elizabeth Spriggs, and David Markha. (104 minutes, 1980)

Sugar Town - Pleasurable variety of LA life characterizing a handful of characters whose lives fit together - a musician hopeful who will do anything to get ahead, an uptight lone lady who allures the inappropriate men like a magnet, and a band made up of cleaned-up '80s rock stars, to name a few. Made on a shoestring, although intelligent and well recognized; brilliant cast contains a variety of real life musicians. Cast includes Ally Sheedy, Rosanna Arquette, John Taylor, Jade Gordon, Michael Des Barres, Lucinda Jenney, and Martin Kemp. (92 minutes, 1999)

Jerry Maguire - Jerry is an agent for a top Sports Management group. When he is terminated, he expects his client to come along with him as he sets out on his own. All of a sudden Jerry finds out that he has no true friends in this cutthroat, dog eat dog, business. Down to one client and one assistant, Jerry fights to build himself a business.

Ivan the Terrible - Continuance of the story of King Ivan IV, in which he takes on the boyars in a conflict for power. Remarkable dvd is just a shade underneath its predecessor, Forbidden by Stalin due to dubious illustration of Ivan's secret patrol, and not released till 1958. Cast includes Nikolai Cherkassov; Serafima Birman, Mikhail Nazvanov, Pavel Kadochnikov, and Andrei Abrikosov. (88 minutes, 1946)

Solar Crisis - Futuristic sci-fi thriller with Matheson leading a save the Earth mission to the sun to stop a solar flash from annihilating the world. Fine visual effects and thrilling story in space harmed by world pranks of poor boy Boyle who ludicrously desires to challenge the mission. Cast includes Tim Matheson, Charlton Heston, Peter Boyle, and Annabel Schofield. (112 minutes, 1990)

Bewitched - Isabelle is a witch, living in the San Fernando Valley, and trying to not use her mystical powers. She finds herself being wooed by actor Jack Watt to play the role of Samantha the witch in a remake of the old 1960's sitcom Bewitched. What a extraordinary twist of fate.

The All-American Boy - Chaotic drama in reference to Olympic aspirant Voight's effort to be a triumphant boxer; beautiful locations of northern California, but that's all. Cast includes Jon Voight, Ned Glass, Anne Archer, and Carol Androsky. (104 minutes, 1989)

Sing, You Sinners - Wagering Crosby couldn't face accountability, regardless of jabbing his sibling MacMurray. Three brothers with dissimilar interests have a singing act. Can the other two brothers save the day when the gambling brother bets on a "sure thing"?
