See An Enjoyable Movie Today, Try Out These Good Film Possibilities

By Conrad Small

Motion pictures are wonderful entertainment but they can also be very positive for our mental health. Motion pictures allow us to take some time to lighten up and escape from our day by day difficulties and concerns. We are able to let go of our daily cares as we get caught up in the lives we are observing on film.

Seize the Day - Williams is momentous as Tommy Wilhelm, turning 40 and a failure by any standard, he is insolvent, damaged and hopeless for love. Wiseman and Stiller offer fine aid as his cold hearted dad and a con man he naively believes in. Lots of familiar faces in tiny roles - Tony Roberts, Richard Shull, John Fiedler, Jo Van Fleet, William Hickey, Eileen Heckart, and numerous others. Cast includes Robin Williams, Joseph Wiseman, Jerry Stiller, and Glenne Headly. (93 minutes, 1986)

Juno - Juno is a smart young girl facing a tremendous predicament. She is pregnant. Wishing the best for the child she strives to find a fitting set of parents for her newborn. With the foundation of caring parents, Juno attempts to deal with coming of age before her time.

The Manchurian Candidate - A current day rendering of the 1962 movie. Decorated war hero Raymond Shaw is now in place to become the Vice President of the US. His Mother, Senator Eleanor Shaw is pulling all the political strings. A drawback is developing for her plans. Major Bennett Marco, a member of Raymond's platoon is beginning to mistrust the events of the day Raymond saved the platoon. Marco is battling an uphill battle, but cannot defend against the pesky impression that something is not right.

Thief of Baghdad - Reeves looks for the elusive blue rose so he could wed the Sultan's baby girl. This is nothing like the Sabu version, although this is a good piece of work. Cast includes Steve Reeves, Giorgia Moll, Arturo Dominici, and Edy Vessel. (90 minutes, 1961)

Down to You - Prinze and Stiles futilely try to buddy us up by talking straight away into the camcorder, illuminating how their once pleasant college romance went bust (albeit not as bust as the film). In someway, this motion picture manages to find room for subplots in reference to a TV show and a friend who has a try as an adult-film entrepreneur with a sort of bohemian knowledgeable porn actress. Cast includes Freddie Prinze, Jr., Julia Stiles, Shawn Hatosy, Selma Blair, Zak Orth, Ashton Kutcher, Rosario Dawson, Henry Winkler, and Lucie Amaz. (91 minutes, 2000)

Scream 3 - As the title implies this is the third movie in the Scream series. Sydney has run away to Northern California, and is in hiding. Back in L.A. they are filming a motion picture about Sydney's life. When there are a series of murders on the set of the motion picture, Sydney must return to L.A. and help the cops find the murderer.

Macabre - Bizarre goings on in smaIl town where a physician's youthful daughter mysteriously disappears and a unspecified telephone caller declares that the youngster has been buried alive. Cast includes William Prince, Jim Backus, Christine White, and Jacqueline Scott. (73 minutes, 1958)

The General - One of Keaton's most excellent silent films, setting comedy dissimilar to real Civil Battle account of a stolen train, and Union spies. Not as bizarre as other Keaton films, though brilliantly finished. Cast includes Buster Keaton, Marion Mack, Glen Cavender, Jim Farley, and Joseph Keaton. (100 minutes, 1984) - 18762
