Rhapsody in Blue: Hollywood biography of George Gershwin is largely fiction, although comes off better than most other composer biographies, seizing Gershwin's excitement for his work, and some of his central conflicts. Dead Man Walking: With his execution date is approaching, death row prisoner Mathew Poncelet is befriended by Sister Helen. Sister Helen sees a different side to Mathew than most get to see, and she feels his suffering. On the other side of the fence, she witnesses the anger and outrage of the families of Mathew's murder victims. It will take all her faith to carry her through whatever outcome lies ahead.
Vertical Limit: Peter Garett, an ex mountain climber who gave the sport up after his father died tragically while climbing, finds himself in a difficult situation. His sister and climbing partner have been trapped in a deep crevasse while attempting to climb the famous K2 peak. He is one of the only people capable of even attempting a near impossible rescue. Time is of the essence, as the trapped climbers will soon freeze to death.
Rocky V: Rocky has retired from boxing. A brain injury from his last fight makes continuing impossible. He becomes a trainer, and his first pupil, Tommy Gunn, leaves him because he won't move him up quick enough. After winning the title with another trainer, Tommy wants to fight Rocky to gain respect. Since Rocky isn't allowed in the ring, they will have to do it as a street fight.
No Love for Johnnie: Civilized research of congressmen who cares only in regards to winning the ballot. Cast includes Peter Finch, Stanley Holloway, Mary Peach, Mervyn Johns, Donald Pleasence, Dennis Cost, and Oliver Reed. (110 minutes, 1961)
Hills Have Eyes Part 2: Lame continuation has a group of motocross fanatics stranded in the desert, preyed upon by a primitive family. This is loaded with flashback footage from the 1977 film, containing one ludicrously alleging to be a memory by a dog. Cast includes Michael Berryman, John Laughin, Tamara Stafford, Kevin Blair, and John Bloom. (88 minutes, 1985)
Above Suspicion: WWII is just starting. American newlyweds honeymooning in Europe are enlisted by the US government to carry out an espionage mission against the Nazis. Can the honeymooners succeed? Richard Thorpe. Joan Crawford, Fred MacMurray, Conrad Veidt, Basil Rathbone and others. (1943 Espionage)
Trader Horn: Early talkie classic filmed largely in Michigan forests still retains lots of enthusiasm in story of hero local trader Carey confronting tribal violence. Cast includes Harry Carey, Edwina Booth, Duncan Renaldo, Olive Brilliant Carey, Mutia Omoolu, and C. Aubrey Smith. (120 minutes, 1931)
The Prince and the Showgirl: Fairly good but slow moving comedy of saucy American show gal Monroe being courted by Prince Regent of Carpathia (Olivier) throughout the 1911 coronation of George V. Filmed in England, with admirable performances by Monroe and Olivier. Cast includes Laurence Olivier, Sybil Thorndike, Jeremy Spencer, and Richard Wattis. (117 minutes, 1957)
