Rhapsody in August: Average (by his estimations) little Kurosawa piece in reference to the hurtful rememberings of a Japanese woman who recollects the bombing of Nagasaki at the end of WW2. Gere, in a hyped up cameo, doesn't appear too out of place as a Japanese American member of the old lady's lengthened family. Cast includes Sachiko Murase, Richard Gere, and Narumi Kayashima. Thief of Baghdad: Reeves looks for the elusive blue rose so he could wed the Sultan's baby girl. This is nothing like the Sabu rendition, although this is a good piece of work. Cast includes Steve Reeves, Giorgia Moll, Arturo Dominici, and Edy Vessel. (90 minutes, 1961)
Blink: Did she or didn't she see a murderer leaving the scene of the crime? That's the main query while gorgeous and strong willed musician Stowe, who is blind. Tale depends on viewer's acceptance of screenwriter's gimmick of "retroactive vision," a post-surgery reaction. Best thing in film is Stowe; alternatively this strolls onto the too recognizable blind-female-in-danger region.
