An Accepted American Novelist's Writings That Were Turned Into Films

By Marilyn J Ross

John Grisham has been one of America's most favorite authors since 1989. His books have sold over 250 million copies globally. The mass of his books, in actual fact 17 in all, are legal fiction on the other hand he has authored four non-legal fiction works and one non-fiction book. As of this time there have been ten films made from his labor with one in the works.

The first motion picture from 1 of his books was "The Firm" in 1993. Tom Cruise plays a Harvard law school graduate who begins working for a Memphis law firm with links to the underworld. Also starring Jeanne Tripplehorn and Gene Hackman. Again in 1993, the 2nd movie from a Grisham tale came out. "The Pelican Brief" starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.

"The Client" starring the late Brad Renfro, Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones was released in 1994. This movie follows the path of a young boy who by accident witnesses a suicide and is thus pursued by the mafia for information they consider he learned from the dying man.

Grisham's very first novel, and some may say his best work of fiction, was "A Time To Kill". This book was made into a motion picture in 1996 and it introduced an up and coming new actor in the lead role, Matthew McConaughey. It also starred Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Also from the year 1996 was "The Chamber" starring Chris O'Donnell, Gene Hackman and Faye Dunaway.

In 1997, "The Rainmaker" starring Matt Damon as a rookie attorney who takes on the litigation of a boy denied medical treatment by a powerful insurance corporation. In 1998, the only picture from Grisham that was based upon an unpublished manuscript was released, "The Gingerbread Man" starring Kenneth Branagh and Robert Downey, Jr.

Of the four non-legal fiction writings by Grisham, two have been made into movies, "A Painted House" in 2003 and the holiday favorite, "Christmas with the Kranks" starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis and adapted from the book "Skipping Christmas".

In 2003, "The Runaway Jury" came out, starring Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack and Rachel Weisz. "The Associate", which was just released in January 2009, is intended to be a movie release in the year 2012.

Grisham has beyond doubt been one of the most famous and prolific writers in the recent past. With twenty-two works out and an additional intended for November 2009, 10 movies and another considered for 2012, he has never failed to entertain us. If you happened to miss any of these remarkable films you can now download them directly to your computer to see right away on your computer, TV or even your iPhone. - 18762
