More Michael Jackson Books Hit the Shelves

By Jenna Landers

In life, there were a plethora of books dedicated to the life, times and career of Michael Jackson. In death, we can expect the number of Michael Jackson books to explode; whether these are studies of his music, reflections on the enigma of his dancing, or more spurious efforts into his private activities.

In the UK this week, publisher Harper Collins stole a march on their competitors, as their biographical tribute; "Michael Jackson - Legend, Hero, Icon", went to print. A study into the man behind Thriller, the fully illustrated hardback is set to hit stores across the country on Friday July 17.

Whilst conspiracies into his death and stories about his very public private life will come out over time; this tribute is very much a reflection on the good he was responsible for, and actively aligns itself with the King of Pop's legion of followers.

Whilst Harper Collins pulled out all the stops to get the book to print, (hiring a freelance author to write 10, 000 words of new material in just 48 hours), it is not the first of new Michael Jackson books made available.

This can be seen with the publishing on July 14 of "Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson". Almost prophetic, author Ian Halperin had painstakingly studied the decline in Jackson's health over recent years. The book may well contain some interesting revelations; including comments regards the singer's lack of confidence in his "This Is It" tour. Delayed from print due to Jackson's sudden death, this could well corner a significant share of the market.

Publishers Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing Group moved the roll date back by a week, apparently in respect of the Jackson family. That the additional closing chapter was written prior to its new print date of July 14 suggest this was exploited; whether a valid reason or otherwise.

As if a reflection on the Peter Pan of Pop's global fan base, it is widely regarded the first completely new round of Michael Jackson books was published in China on July 7.

That one of these writers, Jiang Xiaoyu, remains an ardent fan of the star, the book, "Moonwalk in Paradise", is clearly a salute to the brilliance he shone onto the world. However, the authors admit that mistakes may have been made in validity of content; relying very much on personal thoughts, supported by internet based research.

There will be many more Michael Jackson books appearing over time. Whilst early versions will focus on what we know about him, later copies should uncover the story behind his death; which will attract an even wider audience. - 18762
