Four Ways to Learn How to Play the Piano

1. Begin early. Starting to learn at a young age is clearly one of the best ways to go about it. Children find it easier than adults to learn how to play a musical instrument, and the piano is no exception. There are two reasons for this. The first is that children love to learn. With time older people find it more difficult and even frustrating to learn something completely new especially because it requires time and patience. For adults, learning can be a long process and this can cause a loss of desire to learn a new skill. Life's many other responsibilities also tend to distract them. Children on the other hand find enjoyment where everyday offers something new to learn and discover.

2. Join a band. A band of beginners that is. There is nothing as important when learning how to play the piano as a person?s ability to develop a true love of the instrument. That is why joining a band with other people who may be just starting out on their own musical endeavor can be so rewarding. Being surrounded by other people who enjoy performing and learning new music can be fundamental in keeping a new piano player interested, committed and passionate.

3. Stick with it. In some musical circles the piano is referred to as "the king of instruments" and it is a suitable name to be sure. The piano can take years to learn and even longer to master. Even when a piano player may feel as though they've reached the full potential of the instrument, they soon find out that they have simply scraped the surface. The piano is one of very few instruments? that spans across almost all musical styles and genres. This makes it next to impossible for even the most educated and accomplished musician to ever know the full capabilities of this instrument.

4. Listen to the music of other players. Clearly on of the best ways to learn to play any instrument is by listening to the music of accomplished musicians. Music is a hearing experience, so is learning how to play that music.
